- My guess is that it's a power supply problem. Does the sound of the drive
- vary at all? GVP psus were notorious for this problem and you could hear
- the drive speeding up & slowing down, accompanied by many reports of
- checksum errors which did not exist. of course if you try to write to the
- disk while the speed varies, you will get real checksum errors (and
- worse).

- The remedy in the case of the GVP kit was to dismantle _all_ power
- connections, including those to the circuit board inside the psu,
- and clean up all the pins with a good quality contact cleaner before
- reassembling. This often (not always) cured the problem for a while.
