  23. My guess is that it's a power supply problem.  Does the sound of the drive
  24. vary at all?  GVP psus were notorious for this problem and you could hear
  25. the drive speeding up & slowing down, accompanied by many reports of
  26. checksum errors which did not exist.  of course if you try to write to the
  27. disk while the speed varies, you will get real checksum errors (and
  28. worse).

  30. The remedy in the case of the GVP kit was to dismantle _all_ power
  31. connections, including those to the circuit board inside the psu,
  32. and clean up all the pins with a good quality contact cleaner before
  33. reassembling. This often (not always) cured the problem for a while.
